Once approved by an insurance company, or if you are a self-pay patient, the pre-operative preparation will begin. It takes a full day and will take place from 3 to 14 days before the day of your surgery. If you are from out of town and need to spend the night, there are several local hotels available.
Your testing will begin in the hospital where you will have some blood drawn, a chest x-ray, pulmonary function testing, gallbladder ultrasound and an upper GI series. You are required to attend a nutrition class followed by a pre-operative consultation with the coordinator of the bariatric program, and exercise training class witha a certified trainer.
You will then meet with your surgeon - either Dr. Georgen and Dr. Wasco. He'll go over your history completely and you'll have a chance to ask any additional questions or express any concerns. Please have any questions ready - we want you to know everything.
